Redstone Loop Trail: A Challenging Hike in the Mojave

Tucked away in the Mojave Desert, about an hour's drive north of Las Vegas, lies the Redstone Loop Trail – a rugged and thrilling hike for experienced adventurers seeking a taste of the region's unique landscape. This challenging 4-mile loop takes you through a dramatic expanse of rocky outcroppings, sandy washes, and Joshua tree-studded terrain.

Preparation is Key Before embarking on this journey, make sure to pack plenty of water (at least 3-4 liters per person), snacks, sunscreen, and a map or GPS device. It's also essential to check the weather forecast beforehand, as summer temperatures can soar above 100°F (38°C). Wear sturdy hiking boots and comfortable clothing suitable for the desert environment.

The Hike

The trail begins at the Redstone Canyon Trailhead, marked by a small parking lot and a metal gate. From here, follow the well-marked loop as it winds its way through the rocky terrain. Be prepared for steep inclines, loose gravel, and uneven footing. As you climb higher, the views of the surrounding landscape become increasingly breathtaking – vast expanses of sand and rock stretch out in every direction.

What to Expect

  • Steep inclines and uneven terrain
  • Scorching summer temperatures (above 100°F/38°C)
